CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Catcher Daniel Rizzie registered four hits, including a pair of home runs, to pace Xavier's offense in a 16-1 win over Dayton in the Riverview Inn Classic hosted by Austin Peay. The win improves the Musketeers to 5-3, while the Flyers fall to 3-5.
As a team, Xavier connected for 19 hits and three home runs in the offensive outburst. Rizzie finished the game 4-of-6 at the plate with the two home runs and a double. The sophomore drove in four runs and scored all four times he reached base.
Vinny Nittoli belted XU's third homerun and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. This marks the second-straight game in which Nittoli hit a long ball.
Eleven Musketeers registered a hit in the game, including multi-hit performances from Rizzie, Nittoli, Tres Eberhardt, Joe Forney, Bo Slemons and Jake Forrester. Slemons and Selby Chidemo also drove in two runs to give Xavier four batters with multi-RBI games.
Scott Klever cruised to his first victory of the season, improving to 1-1 on the season. The senior hurler worked seven innings of one-run ball. He struck out as many Flyers, five, as he allowed to reach base, giving up four hits and a walk.
Xavier returns to the diamond on Sunday to close out the Riverview Inn Classic when it takes on host Austin Peay to wrap up the event. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET).
