CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Xavier baseball team concluded play at the Cougar Classic with a 4-1 loss to the host No. 29 College of Charleston Sunday afternoon. With the loss, XU fell to 1-5 while CofC improved to 5-1.
Matt Peglar pitched seven shutout innings and gave up only one hit as he earned the win for the Cougars. Tyler Koors fell to 0-1 with the loss in five innings of action for Xavier.
CofC scored once in the fourth and six before adding two runs in the seventh.
The Cougars held XU scoreless until the top of the ninth when Vinny Nittoli singled to left to score Tres Eberhardt to cut the Cougar lead to 4-1. However, the CofC managed to hold off XU for the win.
Xavier will return to action Wednesday February 29 as they head down I-75 to face the Wildcats of the University of Kentucky. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
