Tyler Koors was masterful on the mound, leading Xavier to a 12-4 win at UAB.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Tyler Koors pitched six solid innings and Xavier's offense exploded in a 12-4 win at UAB on Sunday afternoon. The win improves Xavier's record to 2-4 on the season and drops UAB to 4-4.
A Brian Bruening walk followed by a single from Derek Hasenbeck put runners on first and second with one out in the first inning. Vinny Nittoli advanced the runners and Patrick Paligraf reached on an error, scoring Bruening.
The Musketeers to advantage of two walks to expand on their one-run lead, scoring four runs in the third innings. Elwell led off with a single and both Bruening and Hasenbeck drew walks to load the bases. Nittoli came through with a double to right-center, scoring Elwell and Bruening. Hasenbeck and Nittoli later scored on an RBI ground outs by Paligraf and Schoettmer.
The five-run lead was all that Koors (1-1) needed. UAB had only two bases runners in the first five innings off of Koors before scoring a pair of runs in the sixth. The senior right-hander gave up just three hits to go along with the two earned runs, while striking out three batters.
Xavier added runs in the fourth (2), seventh (1), eighth (2) and ninth (2) innings, finishing the game with 14 hits by nine different Musketeers. Elwell, Hasenbeck, Nittoli and Daniel Rizzie each put together multi-hit games. Elwell connected for three on the afternoon, while the other three notched two hits each. Bruening, who stretched his consecutive hit streak to 18 games, joined Hasenbeck, Nittoli, Elwell and Rizzie scoring two runs apiece. Three Musketeers, Bruening, Nittoli andPaligraf, each posted 2 RBIs.
Dylan Munger took the loss for UAB. Munger lasted only 3.1 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and three walks.
A midweek contest at Wright State in Dayton, Ohio is next on the schedule for Xavier. The game is slated for a 5 p.m. start on Tuesday evening.
