Cross Country Teams Finish Season Strong In Great Lakes Regional

Terre Haute, Ind.---The Xavier University Cross Country teams concluded their 2003 season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Terre Haute, Indiana with the men’s team placing 27th out of a field of 32 teams with a score of 760 points. On the women’s side, Xavier placed 25th out of a field of 30 schools with a score of 738 points.

Six of the seven Musketteers ran a career best 10K at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday morning. Junior Drew LaMaster ran a team best 33:05.6 to place 109th out of a field of 217 runners. Paul Staudigel finished shortly after to place 134th with a time of 33:23.5. Chris Tieke, who was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All Academic team on Monday, posted a 33:50.6 time to earn a 162nd place finish. Senior Matt Graham placed 176th in finishing with a time of 34:21.1. Greg Dickman ended the scoring for the Musketeers when he crossed the finish line with a time of 34:31.1 to place 179th.

Xavier men’s cross country beat University of Dayton for the first time this year by 21 points. The men’s team concluded their season with a 71-57 record and a 7-13 record in the A-10.

Jennie Illig, who was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All Academic Team this week, led the women to a 25th place finish in posting a time of 23:18.2, earning Illig a 115th place finish. Senior Molly Krumpelbeck followed Illig to the finish line for the seventh time this season in placing 148th with a time of 23:49.4. The remaining three finishers for the Musketeers were first year runners. Kelly Sraj earned a 153th place finish in posting a 23:52.1 time. Kristin Hoff finished 169th in 24:22.0. Megan Uhl ended the scoring for the Musketeers when she finished with a time of 24:38.6, placing 177th.

Xavier women’s cross country finished their season with an overall record of 70-64 and a 4-16 record in A-10 competition.
