Musketeers Set To Compete At The NCAA Great Lakes Regional
Nov. 14, 2013
CINCINNATI - This Friday, the men's and women's cross country team head to Madison, Wis., where they will compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The region is comprised of 34 teams who will fight for berths to the NCAA Championship.
The women's team will try to place in the top ten, which would beat their best ever finish at the meet of 13th. The team though, will face four teams in the top 25 (No. 6 Michigan State, No. 9 Butler, No. 14 Michigan and No. 21 Notre Dame). The women's team has run well all season and are hoping to continue this drive through the meet. Individually, Abby Fischer and Clare Fischer are looking to place in the top 25. The Fischer twins have a chance to make Xavier history as the first ever runners from the school to make a cross country NCAA championship.
The men's team will head into the race with a goal of a top 25 finish, but like the women's team, will face heavy competition (No. 11 Indiana, No. 16 Michigan, No. 19 Wisconsin and No. 22 Notre Dame). Leading the charge for the team will be Junior Connor Buchholz and his fellow upperclassmen, who will give direction to the freshmen as they take part in their first regional meet.
The meet will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country course. The men's race gets underway at 11:00 a.m. ET, with the women's to follow at 12:15 p.m. ET.
