Cross Country Heads North For Big East Championship
Oct. 30, 2013
CINCINNATI - This weekend the Xavier men's and women's cross country teams will be riding north to Kenosha, Wis., to compete in their first BIG EAST Championship. The Musketeers will try to make their mark in the conference as they join the long-standing tradition great cross country teams fielded by the BIG EAST Conference.
The women's team has been racing well all season and will try to build on the momentum through the weekend. The team will face nationally-ranked competition from No. 3 Georgetown, No. 4 Providence and No. 7 Butler and a Villanova squad that is receiving votes in the polls. Individually, Clare Fischer and Abby Fischer have a chance of earning All-Conference honors with a top-15 finish.
The men's side will also be ready to make a strong run for a top finish. Like the women though, the men will also face national powers in No. 19 Providence and No. 26 Butler. The men's team has overcome some small setbacks this season and is aiming for a top-five finish.
The BIG EAST Championship race is this Saturday in Kenosha, Wis. at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course. The men's 8K race will begin at 12:00 ET and the women's 6K race at 12:50 ET.
