Men and Women Finish A-10 Strong

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The men's and women's cross country team finished in eighth and seventh respectively today at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Charlotte, N.C. at Frank Liske Park. Both sophomore Tom Ohlman and senior Keith Albrektson earned All-Conference honors for the men's team.
The men finished in eighth in the 8,000-meter race with 181 points and only five points behind the seventh place team. Ohlman placed 10th with an impressive time of 24:52.3 and Albrektson had another strong outing finishing 15th with a time of 25:01.6. This is the first time in Xavier men's cross country team history that two runners earned All-Conference honors.
Junior Ben Foley finished third on the team and 37th overall with a time of 25:41. Junior Matt Coniglio ran 25:57.9 for the 8k finishing in 51st out of the 124 competitors. Freshman Corey Zielinski (85th) and Connor Buchholtz (86th) finished together with times of 26:42.9 and 26:43.6.
Sophomore Keith Schenkel (90th/26:52.8) freshman Aaron Moore (100th/27:22.4) sophomore Spencer Liechty (104th/27:38.9) and senior Ben Nathan (110th/27:56.8) rounded out the competitors for the men's squad.
The women's cross country team moved up three positions from last year's Atlantic 10 Championship, finishing in seventh place with 178 points. Senior Caylin Howell finished first for the Musketeers and 29th overall with a time of 18:24.9 in the 5,000-meter race. Junior Rachel Clark ran a 18:31.4 and finished a personal best 33rd in the Championship. Sophomore Ashley Vincent finished next for the team with a time of 18:38.1 and 35th in the field of 128 women runners.
Sophomores Abby Fischer (18:39.9), Anna Ahlrichs (43rd/18:46.9), and Clare Fischer (47th/18:50.5) rounded out the top six for Xavier. In their first Atlantic 10 Championship freshmen Audrey Ramos and Chelsea Hoffmaster finished in 49th and 62nd with time of 18:56.5 and 19:03.8 respectively. Juniors Calesse Cardosi (75th/19:14.4) and Kaitlin Price (82nd/19:29.7) both ran strong races for the Musketeers.
La Salle won the A-10 Championship in both the men's and women's race. Alfredo Santana of La Salle was the top runner for the men running a 24:18, and Jill Prentice of Richmond was top for the women with a time of 17:13.7.
