Hils Wins Atlantic 10 Cross Country Individual Title

PHILADELPHIA---Xavier's Kerry Hils (Moberly, Mo./Moberly) was the top individual Saturday at the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship. The Xavier women's team placed 7th in the championship, while the men came in 10th.

Hils was named Most Outstanding Performer after claiming the women's title with a time of 17:56.7, the ninth fastest time in Atlantic 10 Championship history. Hils' sixth victory of the season earned her a spot on the 2001 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team.

The women's team finished seventh out of 11 teams with a score of 130 points. Jennie Illig (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) was Xavier's second finisher with a time of 18:55.9 in finishing 16th overall. Freshman Jaime Wyckoff (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) was Xavier's top rookie performer of the meet, placing 37th with a time of 19:37.4. Jennifer Andrassy (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) finished 40th with a time of 19:42.0. Senior Natalie Lanese (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Beaumont) ran a season best 19:45.4 in placing 42nd.

The men's team was led by freshman Drew LaMaster (Prospect, Ky./South Oldham) in finishing tenth place with a score of 257 points. LaMaster finished in 47th with a time of 26:47.8. Patrick Rischmann (Cincinnati/LaSalle) claimed 51st with a time of 26:52.3. Junior Josh Masters (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) finished strong with a time of 27:14.6, good for 62nd. Sophomore Matt Graham (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) ran a season best 27:34.9 in placing 71st. Freshman Chris Tieke (Cincinnati/Glen Este) rounded out the scoring for Xavier in placing 82nd with a time of 27:51.3.

Xavier next races in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on November 10 in Terre Haute, Ind.
