Cross Country Teams Claim Victory

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.---The Xavier women's cross country team claimed its fifth victory of the season in the Stetson University Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla. The men's cross country team recorded its first victory of the season in the same meet.

The women's team finished first with 18 points, narrowly missing out on a slam against its 11 opponents. Junior Kerry Hils (Moberly, Mo./Moberly) led the Musketeers with a first place in a time of 18:22. Jennie Illig (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) followed Hils to the finish line to claim second with a time of 19:19. Jennifer Andrassy (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) finished with a time of 19:40, good for fourth place. Molly Krumpelbeck (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and Jaime Wyckoff (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) concluded the scoring for Xavier. Krumpelbeck ran to a fifth place finish with a time of 19:54, while freshman Wyckoff finished in 20 minutes even to post a sixth place finish.

The Xavier men's cross country team won its first meet of the season on Friday with a score of 35 points out of eight teams. Xavier reached the finish line as a team by claiming fifth through ninth place, with the first three scorers being freshman. Michael Doran (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) led all Xavier runners with a time of 27:24 in finishing fifth. Drew LaMaster (Prospect, Ky./South Oldham) followed Doran in finishing with a time of 27:29 to record a sixth place finish. Patrick Rischmann (Cincinnati/LaSalle) ran to a seventh place finish with a time of 27:36. Sophomore Matt Graham (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) hustled to finish with a time of 27:56 in finishing eighth. Junior Josh Masters (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) helped Xavier claim first with his ninth place finish with a time of 28:03.

Xavier heads to Philadelphia to race in the Atlantic 10 Championship next Saturday.
