CINCNNATI - The Xavier University men's and women's cross country team will have split squads for this weekend's races, sending runners to both the All-Ohio Championship at Cedarville University, and the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
A small group from the men's and women's teams will travel to Cedarville, Ohio to compete in the All-Ohio Championship. Each runner will be racing for individual place and time.
The rest of the men's and women's varsity teams will be racing in the Paul Short Invitational, which is a historic meet and is known to be one of the fastest in the country. In this year's race there are over 150 college teams attending with over 6,000 runners. The Musketeers have been invited to run in the fastest of the four sections, known as the "Gold Race".
The women's squad hopes to continue its strong season with another top five finish at the invitational. The team, however, will face tough competition as five nationally ranked teams will also be running in the meet, #6 Georgetown, #10 Cornell, #12 Villanova, #13 Penn State and #29 West Virginia.
With Five freshmen in the top seven of the men's squad, the Musketeers are looking to gain valuable experience as they work towards the end of season championship races.
