Xavier Runners Cruise in St. Louis Meet
ST. LOUIS, Mo.---Junior Kerry Hils (Moberly, Mo./Moberly) posted a first place finish while breaking the school 6K record at the Cross Country-Only National Championship in St. Louis. Hils’ victory helped the women win for the third time in four meets this season. Drew LaMaster (Prospect, Ky./South Oldham) won the men’s race, leading the Musketeers to a second place team finish.
Hils broke the 6 kilometer school record by 59 seconds to finish with a time of 22:16.8. Hils set the school 5K record last week in South Bend, Ind. Current sophomore Molly Krumpelbeck set the record at the 2000 NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championship. All five members of the women’s team finished in the Top 10. Sophomore Jennie Illig (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon Township) was the second Musketeer to finish. Illig finished with a time of 23.25.8 to claim third. Molly Krumpelbeck (Cincinnati/Seton) finished in fifth place with a time of 23.34.8. Senior Jennifer Andrassy (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) finished seventh with a time of 23:41.6. Sophomore Patty Green (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) followed Andrassy to finish eighth with a time of 23:45.8. Xavier finished with a score of 24 points to finish in first place out of six teams. LaMaster led the men’s team to a second place finish out of eight teams in the 8K race. All five Xavier runners finished in the Top 20. LaMaster finished ahead of the pack with a time of 26:24.5. Freshman Patrick Rischmann (Cincinnati/LaSalle) had a strong performance to finish fifth with a time of 26:48.7. Josh Masters (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) finished with a time of 27:09.6, good enough for eighth. Michael Doran (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) finished tenth by posting a time of 27:15.0. Matt Graham (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) had his strongest performance of the season to finish 19th. Xavier will race again Friday in the All Ohio Championship in Delaware, Ohio.
