Cross Country Teams Impress Competition in the National Catholic Championships

SOUTH BEND, Ind.---Both the men’s and women’s teams had an impressive race in the National Catholic Championships in South Bend, IN. The men's team placed sixth out of 25 teams (fourth among 11 Division I schools) with 181 points. In the women's competition, Xavier finished 11th overall out of 28 teams (seventh out of 11 Division I schools) with a total of 292 points.

The men's team placed sixth with 181 points. Patrick Rischmann (Cincinnati/LaSalle) was Xavier’s top runner in finishing with a time of 26:35 in placing 19th. Michael Doran (Louisville, KY/Trinity) followed Rischmann to the finish line to place 20th with a time of 26:37. Sophomore Drew LaMaster (Prospect, KY/South Oldham) earned 24th place in finishing with a time of 26:53. Freshman Paul Staudigel (Cincinnati/Elder) was Xavier’s fourth finisher for the second consecutive race with a time of 27:02 to place 26th. Dan Cihal (Omaha, NE/Mt. Michael Benedictine) closed out the scoring for the Musketeers in placing 32nd in 27:17.

The women's team placed 11th overall. Jennie Illig (O’Fallon, IL/O’Fallon Township) led the Musketeers with a 28th place finish in 20:08. Junior Molly Krumpelbeck (Cincinnati/Seton) followed Illig with a time of 20:09 to place 29th. Sophomore Jaime Wyckoff (West Chester, OH/Lakota East) ran a strong race to finish 37th with a time of 20:21. Sarah Rodenbeck (Cincinnati/Mercy) crossed the finish line in 20:41 to place 45th. Claire Beck (San Diego, CA/Our Lady of Peace) ended the day for the women in placing 55th with a time of 21:10.

Next Friday the women's team heads to Pittsburgh, PA for the Duquesne Invitational, while the men’s team has the week off.
