Cross Country Wins Second Consecutive Meet
BOWLING GREEN, OH--- Xavier junior Kerry Hils posted her second victory of the season by breaking the 5K school record at the Mel Brodt Invitational at Bowling Green State University. Hils’ victory led the women’s cross country team to its second straight win of the season. In the same meet, the XU men’s team finished sixth.
Hils (Moberly, Mo./Moberly), who is in her first year at Xavier after transferring from Missouri, finished ahead of the pack by 18 seconds with a time of 17:56. Laura Breitenstein set the Xavier record of 18:03 at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational in 1993. The Musketeer women earned the victory with 38 points after having all five scorers finish in the Top 15. Xavier beat the host BGSU Falcons by 27 points. There were 11 teams that competed in the race. Sophmore Jennie Illig (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon Township) beat her personal best by over a minute with a time of 18:50 to finish in fourth place overall. Teammate Jennifer Andrassy (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) finished in eighth place with a time of 19:02. Senior Molly Krumpelbeck (Cincinnati/Seton) finished in 12th place with a time of 19:10. Freshman Jaime Wyckoff (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) finished immediately after Krumpelbeck to finish in 13th place. The men’s team finished in sixth place out of 10 teams. Two freshmen lead the way for the men. Patrick Rischmann (Cincinnati/LaSalle) was the team’s top finisher with an 11th place finish in a time of 25:55. Andrew LaMaster (Prospect, Ky./South Oldham) finished in 18th place with a time of 26.16. Sophmore Greg Dickman (Cincinnati/Elder) was Xavier’s third fastest member and posted a time of 26.59, good for 39th. Xavier next races on Friday at the National Catholic Championship in South Bend, Ind.
