Cross Country Teams Shine in Muskingum Invitational

NEW CONCORD, Ohio --- The Xavier University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Muskingum Invitational, with the men’s team finishing as the overall winner out of six teams with 29 points. The women finished with 50 points, good for second place out of a field of six teams.

All five Xavier runners finished in the Top 10 of the 4.5-mile Muskingum Invitational, earning the men first place. Sophomore Patrick Rischmann (Cincinnati/LaSalle) was Xavier’s first finisher with a time of 23:37, good for second place. Mike Doran (Louisville, KY/Trinity) finished ten seconds after Rischmann to claim third place in 23:47. Drew LaMaster (Prospect, KY/South Oldham) finished with a time of 23:52, placing him fifth overall. Freshman Paul Staudigel (Cincinnati/Elder) had a strong showing in only his second collegiate race in placing ninth with a time of 24:09. Sophomore Dan Cihal (Omaha, NE/Mt. Michael Benedictine) finished in 24:19 to place tenth. The men’s team has a 19-1 record after two races.

Jennie Illig (O’Fallon, IL/O’Fallon Township) guided the women’s team to a second place finish in their season opener, in placing fifth with a time of 20:26. Jaime Wyckoff (West Chester, OH/Lakota East) claimed eighth place in finishing with a time of 20:51. Junior Molly Krumpelbeck (Cincinnati/Seton) crossed the finish line immediately after Wyckoff with a time of 20:52 to place ninth. Claire Beck (San Diego, CA/Our Lady of Peace) finished in 21:23 to place 12th. Liz Sand (Cincinnati/Princeton) secured second place for the Musketeers by finishing 16th with a time of 21:23.

Both the men’s and women’s teams head to South Bend, IN to compete in the National Catholic Championship on Friday, September 20th.
