CINCINNATI- The men's and women's cross country teams are back at it again this week when they travel up to South Bend, Indiana for the 33rd annual National Catholic Championship at the Notre Dame Burke Golf Course. Xavier runners will be among 846 total runners and among thirty-four other schools, thirteen of which are Division I.

Last year the men and women finished fifth and fourth, respectively. The men return 5 of the 8 runners from last year's race and the women return 7 of their 8 finishers from a year ago. Senior Ben Foley and junior Tom Ohlman were the leaders for the men last year; both finished the 8K race with a time of 25:09. Last year the women were led by junior Clare Fischer, whose 18:13.1 became the 8th fastest time in the 5K in Xavier history, making her the first runner to crack the top-10 since 2007.

Xavier will have two participants in the 8K JV race for the men in juniors Matt Orlando and Nick Kobunski. Junior Anna Ahlrichs and sophomores Emily Kuhn and Carrie Kurish will run in the 5K JV race for the women's side.

In this week's 8K race, the men will run nine of the eleven participants from last week's race in the Queen City Invitational. Along with Foley and Ohlman will be senior captain Hank Geer, juniors Chris Hanson, Keith Schenkel, and Spencer Liechty, sophomores Corey Zielinski and Connor Buchholz, and freshman Austin Winter.

The women will also run most competitors from last week, including five of the six that finished in the final fifteen of the Queen City Invitational: Seniors Calesse Cardosi and captain Kaitlin Price, Fischer and classmate Jessica Albers, and freshman Sarah Mazzei. Also running for the Musketeers will be senior captain Rachel Clark, junior Abby Fischer, sophomore Chelsea Hoffmaster and freshman Victoria Ciotti, who was also a part of last week's first place team.

It all kicks off at 3:30 with the start of the JV races, followed by the women's varsity 5K at 4:15 pm and the men's varsity 8K at 5:00 pm. Official results will be posted on the University of Notre Dame athletic website,, after the conclusion of the races.
