A Terrific Trio

PHILADELPHIA --- Xavier had three athletes earn A-10 Weekly honors on Monday. Sophomore Patrick Rischmann was named A-10 men’s cross country Performer of the Week. Also, Steven Barten and Meggie Hoffman were named A-10 Rookie of the Week for men’s soccer and volleyball respectively.

Rischmann, a sophomore from Cincinnati's LaSalle H.S., was honored for the second time in his two year career after placing ninth in a field of 133 runners with a time of 26:54.89 in an 8K race at the Hanover Invitational in Hanover, Ind. His performance lifted Xavier to a second place finish among 16 teams.

Barten, a freshman defender from Budel, The Netherlands, led Xavier with five points in their only game of the week, a 4-0 win over Western Michigan on Sunday. Barten netted two goals and assisted on another in the win.

Hoffman, a freshman outside hitter from New Prague, Minn., was named to the All-Tournament Team at XU's own Mike Castrucci Automotive Xavier Invitational after leading the team to a 2-1 record this past weekend. She had a career day on Saturday with 13 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Texas-Pan American as well as 22 kills and 18 digs in a 3-1 win over Tennessee Tech. On the weekend, she averaged 4.5 kills per game and 3.2 digs per game while boasting a .365 hitting percentage and recording six aces and six assists.

The weekly awards mark the first group of Musketeers to be honored by the conference in 2002-03. In the 2001-02 academic year, Xavier athletes won 55 Atlantic 10 weekly awards.
