CINCINNATI - This weekend the Xavier University men's and women's cross country teams are hosting the 32nd-annual Queen City Invitational. This year's Invitational is highlighted by a new course designed by head coach Ryan Orner, and will be the first time anyone has run on the course.
The meet will be held at Kingswood Park on Irwin Simpson Road in Mason, Ohio, with the men's 5K scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. and the women's 5K at 5:45 p.m.
On the men's side, Xavier expects strong competition in the field. Cincinnati is ranked 12th in the Great Lakes Region, and the Dayton has a lot of depth on its roster. Against this competition, the Musketeers are looking to have a strong performance from junior Connor Buchholz to guide the team, with the help of both returners and freshman.
The women's team is attempting to win the Queen City Invitational team title for the third year in a row. They also will be attempting to fight off strong competition in the field. The team will be led by seniors Clare Fischer and Abby Fischer, who are looking to finish at the top.
There will be sixteen teams competing alongside the Musketeers, with a total of 365 competitors. All NCAA divisions will be present, with Division I competitors coming from Xavier, Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Wright State and Dayton.
