CINCINNATI - The Xavier University Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams are set to begin their 2013 campaign at the Flyer 5K Challenge Saturday at Indian Riffle Park. This meet will also highlight their journey into the BIG EAST conference.

The men’s 5K is scheduled to start at 10:45 a.m., followed by the women at 11:15. The season expectations are high beginning this weekend in Kettering, Ohio, even though the Musketeers will field a very young team.

The Musketeer men will feature five freshmen, racing Avery Campbell, Carter Macey, Grant Parrelli, Aaron Peterson and Jordan Shepherd.

Three returners anchor the Women’s team in Emily Kuhn, Carrie Kurrish and Emily Wolery. The Xavier women will also line up five freshmen in Kristen Barbour, Delainey Burnett, Lauren Francis, Haley Jerabek , Meghan Pryatel and red-shirt freshmen Caterina Karas.

The Flyer 5K will feature Ohio State, Wright State, IUPUI Xavier, Miami (men only), Wittenberg, Northern Kentucky, Denison, Cincinnati Christian and Dayton.  Ohio State and Miami are both ranked in the top 10 in the Great Lakes Region. Xavier and Dayton both recorded top 20 finishes last season at the Great Lakes Regional.
