Tieke Named Third Team Academic All-American

WALTHAM, Mass. – Xavier University junior Chris Tieke (Batavia, Ohio/Glen Este) was named to the 2003-04 Academic All-America Third Team for Men’s Track/Cross Country, which was announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Tieke, a junior holds a 4.0 grade point average as a history major. Earlier this month, Tieke was named to the District IV All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year. He was also named to the 2004 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and is a three-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. He had a career best time of 26:25 at the National Catholic Championships this year to finish 42nd in field of 256 runners. Tieke finished 40th at the Atlantic 10 Championships in a time of 27:04.0.

The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Student-athletes are selected through voting by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
