Tieke and Illig Named To District IV All-Academic Teams

CINCINNATI – The Xavier University cross country team placed two student-athletes on the District IV All-Academic Teams as junior Chris Tieke and senior Jennie Illig were named to the first and second teams, respectively. Tieke is the second Xavier student-athlete to earn first team honors this year as tennis player Lauren Clary earned the same honor last week.

Tieke, a junior from Batavia, Ohio, holds a 4.0 grade point average as a history major. This is Tieke’s second year on the District IV All-Academic Team as he garnered the same honor last year. He was also named to the 2004 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and is a three-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. He had a career best time of 26:25 at the National Catholic Championships this year to finish 42nd in field of 256 runners. Tieke finished 40th at the Atlantic 10 Championships in a time of 27:04.0.

Illig recently graduated with a 3.94 g.pa. with a degree in occupational therapy major and this her third consecutive year on the District IV All-Academic Second Team. The senior from O’Fallon, Ill. is a two-time member of the A-10 All-Academic Team and has been on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll in each of her four years at Xavier. Illig has been the top women’s runner for the Musketeers in six of seven races this season, including a first place finish at the Cardinal Invitational. At the Atlantic 10 Championships, Illig finished 20th while posting a time of 19:27.5.
