Fast Times Despite Cold and Windy Weather at Notre Dame Spring Opener

SOUTH BEND, Ind.---On Saturday, the Xavier University Track teams competed in the Notre Dame Spring Opener in South Bend, Indiana. Despite winds that measured 30 mph and with the temperature dropping to the lower forties, many Xavier ran personal best times.

In the women's 3000 meter run, Freshman Kelly Sraj ran the second fastest time in school history posting a personal best time of 11:00.8. Junior Kristin Hoff (11:28.1), Freshman Megan Uhl (11:30.2) and Junior Sarah Rodenbeck (11:30.8) also ran their personal best times in the race.

On the men's side, personal best times were turned in by three runners. Sophomore Paul Staudigel ran the 5000 Meters in 15:36.35, while teammates Drew LaMaster and Chris Tieke followed with times of 15:56.4 and 16:00 respectively. Additionally, Freshman Mike Hammersmith, making his collegiate running debut, ran his fastest 1500 meter run in a time of 4:17.3. Dan Cihal was the fastest Musketeer in the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:16.6.

Xavier returns to the track at the University of Louisville Open on April 23rd.
