Xavier Track Competes In Charlotte 49er Classic
CHARLOTTE, N.C.---The Xavier University men's and women's track teams competed in the Charlotte 49er Classic on Friday and Saturday.
Both teams had impressive showings over the weekend. Three school records were broken. School records date back to 2001 when official records were kept. Junior Drew LaMaster broke the 800 Meter Run record (2:00.93) and the 5000 Meter Run (15:35.58). Junior Chris Tieke bettered his own record in the 3000 Steeplechase dropping thirteen seconds off his previous best. "We were very pleased about our season opening results at 49er Classic, said head coach Steve Nester. It represented the first opportunity to compete since the NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships last November. Xavier distance runners had never experienced such quality opening meet times in school history." In the women's 800 meter run, Megan Uhl placed 48th in running a 2:32.11, while Kelly Sraj ran 2:34.12. Jennifer Lemmon also placed 70th in the 1500 meter run. Sarah Rodenbeck ran 11:35.98 earning her 29th and teammate Leah Mock placed 35th in the 3000 meter run. Xavier had the most participants in the 5000 meter run. Junior Kristin Hoff and Kelly Sraj crossed the finish line with a 19:07. Megan Uhl finished 22nd. Sarah Rodenbeck ran a 20:16.74 and Leah Mock posted a 20:47.30. Kristin Hoff was the lone Xavier runner in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Hoff finished fifth out of seven participants with a time of 12:31.15. On the men's side, Chris Tieke led Xavier in the 1500 meter run in posting a 4:13. Jeff Dorr and Ryan Schutte finished after Tieke with a 4:17.24 and 4:29.07 respectively, Jeff Dorr placed 36th and Greg Dickman 38th in the 3000 meter run. Drew LaMaster ran a 15:35.58 in the 5000 meter run to place 19th out of a field of 46 runners. Paul Staudigel finished seven seconds after LaMaster to earn 26th. Matt Graham followed with a 15:46 and Greg Dickman placed 37th. Xavier will next compete in the Arizona State Invitational on March 27th. Please click Xavier Track Records for updated statistics.
