Terre Haute, Ind. - The men's and women's cross country team competed in the Pre-Nationals Invitational at Indiana State University, where the women's team took third overall in their heat against a very competitive field of 35 teams and four girls setting personal best times.
Clare Fischer and Abby Fischer, who set personal bests, led the charge for the women's top 20 finish with Clare finishing 13th overall with a time of 21:26.22, and Abby finishing 16th overall right behind her sister, with a time of 21:29.76. Other member of the team that contributed to the strong showing, and who also set personal bests, were Audrey Ramos (39th, 21:56.82), Sarah Mazzei (64th, 22:15.90) and Rachel Sollman (123rd, 22:58.02).
"I was very pleased with the women's team's third place finish and the fact that we placed three girls in the top forty", said Head Coach Ryan Orner. "We met our goal today of making up significant ground on several of our regional rivals and we also had a positive return to the course following the Paul Short Invitational."
The men's team finished 18th overall in their division and had four runners in the top 100, with 4 out of 7 runners set their personal records for the 8K. Connor Bucholz, who was one of the four to set a personal record, was the lead runner for the men and finished 60th overall with a time of 26:07.11. Others who also set personal best were Carter Macey (91st, 26:33.85), Aaron Peterson (93rd, 26:34.76) and Grant Parelli (114th, 26:58.58)
The cross country team will return to action on Saturday, November 2 for the BIG EAST Championship in Kinosha, Wisc. at noon.
