Women's Cross Country Finishes In Top 25 At Prestigious Paul Short
Oct. 5, 2013
LEHIGH, Pa. - This morning, the men's and women's cross country teams raced in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University, where the women's unit finished in the top 25 against a loaded field of nationally-ranked schools with Clare Fischer and Jessica Albers turning in personal bests.
Fischer (#27, 21:05) and Albers (#56, 21:27) who bolstered career performances led the way for the team through the tough conditions.
Head Coach Orner said, "Despite the heat, Clare Fischer and Jessica Albers turned in two of the best performances of their careers. Both set personal records as well as moved up on the all-time Xavier record list in the 6K. Clare is now 3rd all-time and Jessica is now 5th all-time."
Finishing at the top of the men's team was senior Keith Schenkel who finished with a time of 26:29. Right behind Schenkel were freshman Aaron Peterson (26:46), junior Corey Zielinski (26:47) and freshmen Carter Macey (26:51) and Grant Parrelli (27:04).
"The men's team saw some improvements from their performance at Notre Dame but again fell short of having the finishing times needed to complete in the race we were in." said Orner. "We look forward to having a healthy squad by the BIG EAST Championship."
The Musketeers look for strong performances in their next meet as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Pre-Nationals. The meet takes place at Indiana State University Saturday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m.
