Xavier cross country runner Clare Fischer finished 18th in the regional championships and qualified for the 2013 NCAA National Championships, becoming the first member of the cross country or track teams to reach the championship meet in program history. Fischer sat down to speak with GoXavier.com about the accomplishment.
Xavier's Abby and Clare Fischer love being twins. They enjoy everything from each other's company to pulling April Fool's jokes. The twins, who are two of XU's top cross country runners, are so in sync with one another that they even laugh together. Watch and see.
2014 NCAA Great Lakes Regional - All Region
2013-14: Completed her standout career competing in seven events ... Placed third and helped the team to a first place finish in the Queen City Invitational with a time of 17:44.79 ... Led the team at the final four meets, including using a time of 21:05.00 to place 27th individually and help the team to a top 25 finish at the Paul Short Invitational ... Used a time of 20:47.00 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional to finish 18th and earn a spot in the NCAA Championships ... Became the first Xavier Cross Country Athlete to compete in the NCAA Finals, posting a time of 22:05.30.
2012-13: Competed in six events during her breakthrough junior year ... Three of her six finishes were in the top-5, including 2nd place at the Queen City Invitational (18:47.81), 3rd at the All-Ohio Championship, and 4th at the A-10 Championships ... Held the three fastest times on the women's side for the 5K, with the top time of 17:53.84 at the All-Ohio Championship landing her a 3rd place finish out of 298 total runners ... That time of 17:53.84 is the second fastest time in Xavier history in the 5K and the fastest time for a woman runner in over 6 years ... Her second fastest time on the season of 18:00.6 was good enough for 15th at the National Catholic Championship, the best finish for the women's side at that meet ... Finished 4th out of 140 at the Atlantic 10 Championships with a time of 18:05.4 and finished 38th out of 218 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in the 6K with a time of 21:22, the fastest 6K time for the women's side for the season
2011-12: Participated in five races for the Musketeers ... Posted the team's best 5K time of 18:14 at the National Catholic Invitational, where she placed 17th out of 272 runners ... Finished 10th at the Queen City Invitational and 47th at the Atlantic 10 Championship ... Earned the Dean's Award for maintaining a 3.5-4.0 grade point average.
2010-11: Competed in five events as a rookie ... Had to miss the first two competitions due to injury ... Ran a season-best 5K at the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 57th place time of 18:53 ... Was the second finisher for XU at the Great Lakes Regional with a 104th place time of 22:48 ... Highest finish was 42nd at the All-Ohio Championships ... Named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll following both the fall and spring semesters
