CINCINNATI - This Saturday the Xavier track and field team will begin its indoor season at the Findlay Oiler Opener in Findlay, Ohio. This is the team's first season in the BIG EAST as they transition from the Atlantic Ten, and their first meet of the indoor track season. Overall, the team will look to score as many points as possible in the field and sprint events.
For the season, the men's team will be led by last year's Atlantic Ten Conference Champion Craig Krcal, who is a co-captain and will focus on winning the pole vault, but will also move into the multi-events during both indoor and outdoor track. Also on the men's side, Tom Ohlman will be returning from an injury suffered during the cross country season. Ohlman is coming off a record breaking campaign last year in track, where he broke multiple school records and qualified for the first round of the NCAA Championship.
The women's pack will be led by the event trio of Adi Taraska, Mercedes Oliver and Onya Edwards. Additionally, the team will benefit from the leadership and success of Clare Fischer, who is coming off a cross country season where she qualified for the NCAA Championship.
Along with these returners, 25 freshmen will contribute to the team as they attempt to finish in the top half of the conference.
Track and field opens its season this Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Oiler Opener in Findlay, Ohio at the University of Findlay.
