JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore distance runner Ashley Vincent will compete for Xavier in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Regional on Saturday night in Jacksonville, Fla.
The race will begin at 8:45 p.m. from Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida - the site of this year's three-day regional meet.
Vincent enters the race with a qualifying time of 16:34.74, which is the 36th fastest time in the field of runners. She will run in one of the two heats that split up the 48 participants who qualified for the event.
To advance to the national championship, Vincent will either have to finish fifth or better in her heat or clock one of the two next fastest times.
Vincent has finished two 5,000-meter runs this season. In her first 5K race of the year she clocked a 16:52.28 at the Alabama Relays, which was a school record until she posted her current time at the Stanford Invitational.
She also competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase where she holds the three-fastest times in school history. Vincent also qualified for the race at the regional meet but chose to run in the 5K for personal preference.
