Fischer, Ohlman Set To Make Splash At NCAA Track & Field Regionals

CINCINNATI - The NCAA released the list of participants to compete in the Thursday and Xavier runners Clare Fischer and Tom Ohlman have qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships. Fischer will compete in the 10,000-meter run, while Ohlman will take part in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second time in as many years.
Fischer qualified for the preliminaries with a time of 34:21.21 posted during the Mt. SAC Relays. That seed time places her25th in the 10,000m event for the East Region.
Ohlman found success in the steeplechase early in the year, winning in the Miami Invitational. He crossed the finish line with his seed time of 9:00.57 during the BIG EAST Championships. Ohlman just made the cut for the NCAA event, placing 47th out of 48 runners to qualify in the East.
This marks the second-consecutive year in the NCAA Regionals for Ohlman. A year ago, he qualified 46th overall and moved up during the preliminaries with a time of 9:03.69 to finish 25th overall.
Fischer and Ohlman travel to the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida to compete in the preliminaries. The three-day event is set to take place May 29-31. Results will be posted to GoXavier.com.
