Cardinal Twilight Provides Opportunities For Track & Field Athletes
May 15, 2014
CINCINNATI - Three members of the Xavier track & field team will make the trek to Louisville, Ky., for the Cardinal Twilight on Friday. Tom Ohlman, John Kolibab and Mercedes Oliver are competing in the event in order to secure a spot in the NCAA First Round.
Following his time of 9:00.57 in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase at the BIG EAST Conference Championships, Tom Ohlman ranks 40th in the East Region and is using the Twilight as an opportunity to improve his standing. The top 48 in each region qualify for the first round.
Kolibab currently ranks 79th regionally in the high jump after clearing 2.04m (6-8.25) at the RedHawk Invitational two weeks ago. Oliver, an All-BIG EAST performer in shotput and discuss, broke through in the shot with a toss of 14.10m in the league championships. Both Kolibab and Oliver are trying to improve their standings and earn a spot in the NCAAs.
Senior captain Clare Fischer has already qualified for the NCAA First Round in Jacksonville, Fla., in the 10,000-meter run. She will not compete again until that race, which will be held from May 29-31.
