The Xavier T&F teams gear up for day two of the Jesse Owens Invitational this weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The Musketeers have plenty of events on tap today and look to finish the weekend strong.
Day one took place yesterday and saw 12 Musketeers finish events. In the discus throw, sophoomore Jake Dibattista finished 26th with a distance of 37.33 meters. Dibattista also competed in the javelin, but fouled on his attempt. Freshman Mercedes Oliver also competed in the discus, finishing 24th with a distance of 39.90 meters.
In the running events, junior Jessica Albers (15th) and freshman Sarah Mazzei (20th) ran the 5000-meter race, finishing with times of 17:28.91 and 17:52.51, respectively. In the women's 1500-meter race, four Musketeers competed led by junior Madison Reithman's 29th place finish with a time of 4:46.41. The other three to finish include sophomore Audrey Ramos (33rd, 4:48.01), junior Anna Ahlrichs (34th, 4:48.34), and senior Kaitlin Price (47th, 5:00.00).
The men's side was led by a trio of sophomores in the 1500-meter race. Corey Zielinski (35th), Matt Orlando (36th), and Connor Buchholz (37th) were back-to-back-to-back coming across the finish line, finishing in times of 4:06.09, 4:06.83, and 4:07.08, respectively. Junior Keith Schenkel just missed the trio, finishing 39th with a time of 4:07.34.
Plenty of events remain today including most of the short distance events as well as the jumping events. Senior David Gibson is looking to continue his hot streak in the long jump which started in Knoxville last week and Onya Edwards is the highest seeded freshman in the long jump.
