The Musketeers face strong fields in both meets out west this weekend.

CINCINNATI - The Xavier track and field teams are flying west this week to compete in both the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. and the Beach Invite in Long Beach, Calif. The Mt. SAC Relays is considered one of the most prestigious meets in the country and this year marks its 56th year of competition. The Musketeers will be racing against perennial track and field powerhouses from across the country such as Arizona, Arkansas, Texas and Oregon, that are ranked in the top 20 on both the men's and women's sides. The field features professional runners from Nike, Adidas and New Balance who will present the teams with a strong challenge.
Seven athletes will compete in the Relays. Senior Tom Ohlman will run in the Olympic Development/Elite Heat in the 3000m Steeplechase, while senior sisters Clare Fischer and Abby Fischer are both scheduled to compete in the 10000m. Clare Fischer will participate in the Invite Elite Section and Abby Fischer in the Silver Elite Section.
The track and field teams are also sending a group of athletes to the Beach Invite on Saturday. Entered in the events are a contingent of field event and middle distance athletes who will be facing elite competition from the western United States.
The Mt. SAC Relays begins this Thursday, April 17 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. and continues through Saturday, April 19, while the Long Beach Invite is scheduled for Saturday, April 19 at Long Beach State University in Long Beach, Calif.
