
Xavier Track Turns in Impressive Finishes at Boston-Moon Classic
April 14, 2007 CINCINNATI - Weather was not on the side of the Xavier University men's and women's outdoor track programs today, but they still recorded impressive finishes at the Boston-Moon Classic in Nashville Tennessee. The women placed eighth in a field of 13 despite competing in half of the events while the men turned in a sixth place finish in the same size field. On the women's squad two school records were broken. Katie Phillips had a school and personal-best finish in the 400-meter run turning in an impressive time of 1:01.06, while Dani Meiners broke her own record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase recording a solid time of 11:32.11, finishing first. The lady Musketeers placed four runners in the top 10 of the 3,000-meter run. Sophomore Becky Clark claimed high honors finishing in a time of 10:04.18. Amanda Brown ran a lifetime-best time of 10:17.57, earning her third place in the event. Senior Kelly Sraj and Joanna Gruber took fourth and eight, turning in times of 10:21.39 and 10:44.43, respectively. Other notable finishes on the women's squad include sophomore Ashley Stick and junior Caitlin Shagena, each running the 800-meter race. Stick finished in a lifetime-best 2:20.76, while Shagena recorded a time of 2:22.67. Also, freshman Bethany Moore turned in a personal-best 4:51.41 in the 1,500-meter race. The men's squad took home three records. Sophomore Clinton Womack continued his success in the 800-meter run finishing in a school and lifetime best 1:56.10. Freshman Derek LeBlanc claimed a school-record in the 100-meter dash turning in a time of 11.64. Freshman John Schultz finished third in the high jump, taking home a school record with his height of 1.80m. Other standout performances include Luke Beuerlein and Ben Milroy in the 3,000-meter run. Beuerlein took second place in 8:49.35 while Milroy earned fourth turning in a time of 8:56.55. The men's 4x400-meter relay finished in a noteworthy 3:31.34; runners in the race include Derek LeBlanc, Clinton Womack, John Schultz, and Dan Magness. The Xavier University men's and women's track programs will return to action in two meets next weekend, April 20-21. The team will compete in the Eastern Kentucky Invitational on the 20th and the All-Ohio Championships the 21st.
