Xavier T&F Gear Up For Miami Invitational
April 5, 2013
CINCINNATI- The Xavier track and field teams head north this weekend as they prepare for the Miami Invitational on both Friday and Saturday. The Musketeers are coming off a successful Easter weekend performance at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational which saw many Musketeers finish in the top-10 of their event.
A couple of events to look forward to include: senior captain Rachel Clark in the 1500-meter race, junior Tom Ohlman in the 3000-meter steeplechase, junior Adrija Taraska in the shot put, junior Jessica Albers and sophomore Audrey Ramos in the 5000-meter run, and sophomore John Kolibab in the high jump.
Clark looks to be back in her top form after a couple of successful first meets of the season. She has raced twice this season and has come in second both times (1500-meter at Early Bird Relays and 800-meter at Oliver Nikoloff). The senior captain will look to finish among tough competitors from Butler, Dayton, and the host Miami (Ohio) aiming for a win and the top time for the event for any Musketeer this season.
Ohlman will be running in his first steeplechase of the year, an event that he has had success in throughout his Xavier career. He set the school record of 9:03.09 for the event a year ago this week at the Stanford Invitational. This weekend, the junior captain will look to gain some confidence in the event he is predicted to compete in come May for the A-10 Outdoor Championships in Charlotte.
Adi Taraska has been firing on all cylinders since her 8th place finish in the shot put at the A-10 Indoor Championships in February where she set the school record. She finished 2nd overall in the shot put at the Early Bird Relays and finished 16th this past weekend at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. She also finished 3rd in the javelin this past weekend and will look to finish toward the top in both events this weekend.
Albers and Ramos have had success in the 5000-meter race this year as they finished first and second, respectively, in the event at the Early Bird Relays and in the top-20 last weekend at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. The duo will look to finsh under the 18 minute mark this weekend, making them the fourth and fifth girls to do so for the Musketeers this season.
Kolibab looks to finish high this weekend as well as he looks to continue the early season success he has enjoyed. He finished 8th last week with a height of 1.93-meters and has a 1st place finish under his belt as well from the Early Bird Relays where he cleared a height of 1.96-meters. That height beat the school record that he held by .01 meters. The sophomore will look to add a top finish to an already impressive start to the season.
