XU to Compete in A-10 Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships

CINCINNATI- Xavier student-athletes are trekking up to Rhode Island to take part in the Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships held this Friday and Saturday. Xavier is looking to improve on last season’s record breaking performance.
The women and men will have to contend with A-10 powerhouse Charlotte who has claimed consecutive titles for four seasons. The women’s competition will see athletes from Duquesne, Fordham, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Richmond, Saint Joseph’s and Temple. The men will have to battle against Temple (a potential contender for this season’s title), Fordham, La Salle, Massachusetts, Richmond, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph’s and Saint Louis
At last season’s championships, ten school records fell and several team members made the podium in their events. Additionally, the team as a whole recorded its highest point totals in event history. Brittani Peltz finished in sixth in the 400-meter dash. Emily Tyler set a then school record in the pentathlon. Micayla McGinn broke her high jump record, soaring over five feet for the first time in school history. Brian Armstrong, Grace Venzor and Nick Williams also broke records last season. There were also several season and personal bests set at the 2009 Championship.
The two-day championship will be streamed live on www.atlantic10.org, beginning on Friday at 9:00 a.m. Live stats will also be available through the Atlantic 10 website. Events will be held on the University of Rhode Island campus at the Mackal Field House.
