Kelly Sraj - Junior - Dayton, Ohio

Feb. 10, 2006

As part of the new and improved athletics website at GOXAVIER.com, the Student Athlete of the Week Driven by Toyota will profile a different XU student-athlete each week. This feature will allow all Xavier supporters to learn a little more about the outstanding student athletes that attend Xavier University.

Kelly Sraj, a junior on the women's cross country and track teams, is this week's Student-Athlete of the Week. Sraj, a native of Dayton, earns Student-Athlete of the Week honors following her performance at the Husker Invitational on Feb. 3-4 in Lincoln, Neb. Competing against the toughest competition of the season, the junior broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:27.24. Sraj turned in a pair of top five finishes earlier in the season in the 3,000 with a second-place finish at Purdue (10:43.99) on Jan. 14 and a third-place finish at Bowling Green (10:31.40) on Jan. 20.

In the fall, Sraj recorded three top five finishes with the cross country team including a fourth-place finish at the Mike Hodges Invite on Oct. 15 in Oregon City, Ore. Sraj's top performance of the fall season came at the National Catholic Championships on Sept. 16 where she finished 12th overall in the field of 277 with a season-best time of 18:28 in the 5K.

Sraj and the Musketeers will return to the track for the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Championship on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the University of Rhode Island.
