CINCINNATI - This weekend the Xavier track and field team will be trekking to two different meets on both Friday and Saturday. On Friday, a select group of athletes will participate at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., and will join the rest of the team on Saturday at the Mastadon Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The limited squad will compete against several Big Ten and BIG EAST schools at the Gladstein Invitational. Tom Ohlman will race in the 3000m and is his first meet back after experiencing an injury last year during the outdoor NCAA first round championship.
This is also Clare Fischer's first meet following a successful cross country season, which earned her a spot in the NCAA championship. Fischer was the first ever male or female cross country or track and field athlete to make it to an NCAA championship.
On Saturday, the team heads to the Mastadon Duals at IPFW. For the men's side, Corey Zielinski takes the starting line after a solid start at the Kentucky Invitational, while Russell Platt and John Kolibab are expected to place high in the high jump. The women Musketeers seek to be one of the top three teams at the meet. Audrey Ramos and Anna Ahlrichs will both be running the mile after setting personal best times in the 3000m.
The Gladstein Invitational is set to start at 4:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at Indiana University, and the Mastadon Duals at IPFW is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25 with an 11:00 a.m. start time.
