Xavier Indoor Track Breaks Six School Records at Golden Flash Gala

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Xavier University men's and women's indoor track teams turned in phenomenal race times as they competed in the 2006 Golden Flash Gala hosted by Kent State University. Six school records were broken as the Musketeers were in top competitive form. Sophomore Becky Clark shattered her own school-record in the 1,000-meter race in a time of 2:57.25, finishing second. The women's 4x400-relay team including freshman Katie Phillips, Clark, sophomore Ashley Stick and freshman Kelsey Flaherty also left their mark on the record books as they finished in a time of 4:11.11 breaking the school-record left by Kristin Hull, Shelly Dickinson, Lindsay Lander, and Megan Uhl of 4:17.42 in 2004. Freshman Danielle Meiners ran a personal-best in the one-mile run at 5:18.61, which earned her a fourth place finish. Senior Kelly Sraj also turned in a standout performance in the one-mile run recording a time of 5:22.45 finishing sixth. Sohpomore Jeff Hileman broke his own record set last year in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.04. Sophomore Clinton Womack's second place time of 1:56.87 in the 800-meter run was both a school and personal-best time. Junior Matt Weingardt turned in a time of 2:39.22 in the 1,000-meter run leaving his own mark in school history. The men's 4x400 relay also claimed a spot in the record book as freshman John Schultz, sohpomore Luke Beuerlein, sophomore Jeff Meinert, and Womack turned in a time of 3:30.79, breaking the previous record by five seconds.
The Musketeers return to action January 27, 2007 as they compete in Bloominton, Ind. at the Indiana Open. The meet will start at 12:00 p.m. |
