Milroy Takes First at Oiler Opener in 3,000-meter Run

CINCINNATI - Senior Ben Milroy earned first place honors in the 3,000-meter run while sophomore Becky Clark turned in a second place finish in the one-mile run on Saturday as the Xavier University men's and women's track teams competed at the University of Findlay's Oiler Opener at Malcom Athletic Center.

Milroy led a series of six consecutive Musketeers across the finish line in the 3,000-meter race in a time of 9:07.70. Freshman Tommy Kauffmann was 12 seconds behind Milroy earning second place in 9:19.97 while sophomore Drew Kaiser came in three seconds later at 9:22.93. Freshman Joe Ryan finished fourth in 9:30.03 and was followed quickly by freshman Paul Kostoff in 9:32.99. Senior Aaron Smith rounded out the six-man pack in 9:43.19.

Clark finished second and was the first of three top-5 runners in the one-mile run with a time of 5:08.03. Coming in third and fourth place was sophomore Bethany Moore and freshman Caitlin Thomas in 5:19.53 and 5:26.06, respectively.

Other standout Xavier performances include junior Clinton Womack who finished fifth in a field of 20 in the 800-meter run in 1:57.39, as well as freshman Sam Lewis who debuted his collegiate track career finishing in 1:57.39 in the 800. Junior Luke Beuerlein finished second in the one-mile run in 4:36.43 while Freshman Michael McManus recorded second in the high-jump in 1.93.

 

 

On the women's side sophomore Katie Phillips turned in a six place finish in a time of 2:22.93 while freshman Christina Schneider came in third in the 3,000-meter run in 10:06.21. Danna Deans bettered her 60-meter dash time and finished in 8.32.

The Musketeers will return to action next Saturday, December 8th when they compete at the Kent State Open in Kent, Ohio.
