May 25, 2013
CINCINNATI- Xavier's track and field season came to an end Friday night in Greensboro, North Carolina as junior Tom Ohlman was the lone Musketeer competitor at the NCAA East Regional meet.
Ohlman's successful season ended Friday night as he competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the final time as a junior. He went into the event seeded 46th after qualifying 9th in the first heat of the event with a time of 9:03.69. Ohlman improved almost 20 spots and finished 25th overall for the event.
Head coach Ryan Orner traveled with Ohlman to Greensboro and had this to say. "Our 2013 track & field season came to a close tonight with Tom Ohlman finishing 25th out of 48 in the 1st. round of the NCAA Championship. Although Tom didn't didn't place high enough to move on to the finals in Eugene, he had a solid performance. Tom came into the 1st. round seeded 46th and went out 25th so I would consider this a successful meet for him." Orner continued, "Tom will be taking two weeks off and then will start up his summer training to get ready for the 2013 cross country season where his goal will be to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
This concludes Orner's first year at the helm of the cross country and track programs which each saw numerous firsts in their programs' history. This also concludes the careers of a number of senior athletes whom Xavier would like to thank for their dedication and hard work throughout their years with the university. Congratulations to Caleese Cardosi, Rachel Clark, Marikka Joseph, Annie Lennon, Kaitlin Price, Matt Coniglio, Hank Geer, David Gibson, and Chris Hanson.
