2013 Cardinal Twilight Results

CINCINNATI- Junior Madison Riethman and senior David Gibson were the lone competitors for the Xavier Musketeers at the Cardinal Twilight meet in Louisville Friday afternoon. Both went into their events looking for times and distances good enough to qualify for the NCAA East Regionals in a couple of weeks.

Riethman ran in her fifth 800-meter event of the season, coming away with her fastest time on Friday with a time of 2:16.38 which got her 8th place. Head coach Ryan Orner discussed the battle that was the junior's last regular season event of this outdoor season. "Madison ended up in a very physical race where she was pushed around a lot within the first 200m. Because of all the pushing she came through the first 400 about two seconds slow, but she ended up running around the same time she has run once previously in the open 800 with a time of 2:16.38."

Senior David Gibson came back to Cincinnati once again with a school record in the long jump. He left the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships with a personal best distance of 7.24-meters, a distance that shattered his previous season-best and also broke his own school record. This week he inched .03-meters further with a distance of 7.27-meters, which got him second place overall. Coach Orner had this to say about Gibson's afternoon on Friday: "David was able to block out the elements of rain and a wet runway to once again break his own school record with a jump or 7.27 which placed him second in the meet but the first college competitor overall. Although he was just short of what we were going for (7.31) he still had a number of very good attempts."

Riethman and Gibson, along with other Musketeer hopefuls, will find out if their times and distances this season have earned them a qualifying spot in the NCAA East Regionals set for May 23rd and 24th in Greensboro, North Carolina. Be sure to check in with GoXavier.com later in the week to find out.
