Xavier Track Breaks Nine School Records Over Two Meets

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Xavier men's and women's track teams rewrote the record books, establishing nine new school records this weekend at the Eastern Kentucky Invite in Richmond, Kentucky, and the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships in Cincinnati.  Freshman John Schultz completed his first decathlon with a seventh place effort in 4865 points.  Schultz broke schools records in the shot put and javelin along with establishing the school record standard in the event.

 

The XU records broken Friday evening at the Eastern Kentucky Invite included sophomore Becky Clark improving her 800-meter time to 2:17.23.  Sophomore Luke Beuerlein broke the 1500-meter record held by Xavier Alumnus Drew LaMaster at 4:05 with a time of 4:02.44.  Junior Cody Ackerman also broke his own school record in the discus.

 

At the two-day All-Ohio Championships, sophomore Clinton Womack finished tenth in the 800-meter run with a new school record and personal best time of 1:54.00.  Freshman Danielle Meiners improved her school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to 11:30.11, placing sixth in the event.

 

The Musketeer women dominated the field in the 10,000-meter run, finishing as the only school with three runners in the top eight.  Senior Kelly Sraj broke Amanda Brown's 2005 School Record by twelve seconds in a time of 38:14.  Junior Joanna Gruber lowered her personal best by over two and a half minutes, placing seventh.  Junior Amanda Brown battled dehydration to round out the Xavier 10,000-meter performance in eighth.  On the second day of competition, Brown ran the 1,500 meters in a personal best time of 4:54.63.  Xavier sophomore Ashley Stick shaved three seconds off her 800 meter time to finish tenth at 2:17.67.

 

The Musketeers travel to Indianapolis for the Stan Lyons Invitational next weekend the 28th.
