Howell now holds the school record in the 5,000 meters

FAIRFAX, Va. - The Xavier track and field team saw two school records fall and six top five finishes at the Mason Spring Invitational hosted by George Mason University. Additionally, the men's and women's 4x100 meter relay teams came in second and third respectively.
Howell came in fifth in the 5,000 meters running a school-best time of 17:13.30. This was also a career best for the junior from Sugarland, Texas. Kauffmann earned a second place finish behind a runner from nationally-ranked Princeton. The senior cruised to a school-record time of 14:13.02.
Williams had a busy day, running the best time in his heat in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.85. He would come back in the finals and finish second with a time of 10.70. The Cincinnati native came in third in his heat and fifth overall in the 200 meters with a 21.65.
Senior Caitlin Thomas earned a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:18.58. Other highlights for the women include: Emily Tyler's fourth place finish in the 100 meter hurdle finals with a time of 14.79, Britttani Peltz's eighth place 56.42 in the 400 meters and Rachel Clark's 2:13.83 in the 800 meters for 10th. Sabrina Johnson participated in her first event with the track and field team now that the basketball season has come to a close. Johnson came in fifth in the discus with a mark of 41.77 m.
For the men, Tom Ohlman and Hank Geer finished in eighth and ninth respectively in the 5,000 meters with times of 14:43.68 and 14:44.76. Rookie Craig Krcal came in tenth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.00 m.
The Muskeeteers split action next weekend. Some athletes will travel to the Mt. Sac Relays while the rest of the team competes at the All Ohio Championships at UC.
