CINCINNATI - The Xavier track and field team participated in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational this past weekend in Cincinnati at UC where both teams finished in the top half of teams who competed. Women finished fifth out of 12 collegiate teams with 75 points. Men finished seventh out of 16 with 47 points. Despite the wet and cold conditions, the Musketeers were able to pull off a strong performance.
Clare Fischer decidedly won the 5K with a time of 16:54.97, putting her first in the BIG EAST Conference for the event thus far this season. Five other runners competed in the event, including Delainey Burnett who set a personal record of 18:34.17.
Mercedes Oliver contributed with a fifth place finish in the shot put, seventh in the discus and thirteenth in the hammer throw on Friday. She set an immediate school record in her first throw at 39.45m, the first time she has competed in hammer.
Anna Ahlrichs ran in the Steeplchase where she set a personal record of 11:01.30 earning her a second place finish and was edged out for the victory by one hundredth of a second.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Brenna McGrath, Onya Edwards, Kristine Johnston and Monica Mannings placed fourth with a time of 51.25. Edwards also contributed in the long jump and triple jump by taking second and third.
John Kolibab continued his successful outdoor season by placing second in the high jump with a height of 1.98m. Aaron Peterson also had a second place finish on the day by crossing in a time of 9:49.58 in the Steeplechase, his first time competing in the event.
Tom Ohlman turned in a fourth place finish in the 5K with a time of 14:46.84. The men's 4x100m relay team placed third with a time of 43.94. The team consisted of Matthew Bryant, Russell Platt, Josh Phelan and Dimitrious Dimitroff
The teams are back in action next weekend, April fourth and fifth, at Miami (OH) University for the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
