TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Xavier track and field team wrapped up its first two-day outdoor meet of the season on Saturday at the Alabama Relays with a new school record and two strong individual performances.
Senior Brittani Peltz won the 400-meter dash invitational (57.97) for the Musketeers, and was the third Xavier athlete to take a top spot at this weekend's meet. Junior Rachel Clark turned in another strong performance in the 800-meter run, where she finished third with a time of 2:13.82.
Peltz and Clark also combined with freshman Samantha Birchfield and sophomore Susannah Shelley to place fifth and break the school record in the women's 4x400-meter relay. The foursome set a new school time of 3:56.37, besting the old time by more than two seconds.
Senior Nick Williams competed in the men's 100-meter dash invitational, which also included former world champion Kim Collins. Williams finished seventh with a time of 10.72 in the race, just shy of his school record.
Freshman Audrey Ramos built off her run last week to capture sixth in the women's 1,500-meter run. Her teammates, sophomore Jessica Albers and junior Kaitlin Price, finished seventh and ninth respectively. Ramos clocked a time of 4:47.04 to pace the three Xavier runners.
Junior Emily Tyler ran in the 100-meter hurdles (14.59) and placed sixth for the Musketeers.
Freshman Connor Buchholz placed fifth in the men's 1,500-meter run with his time of 4:02.34.
On Friday, Xavier had the three top finishers in the women's 5-kilometer run and the winner in the men's 3-kilometer steeplechase.
Up next for the Musketeers will be the Oliver Nikoloff meet hosted by the University of Cincinnati beginning on Friday.
