Xavier Turns in Five Record-Breaking Performances at Early Bird Relays

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's and women's track teams claimed five school records today as they competed in the University of Cincinnati Early Bird Relays. The men's team turned in a third place finish, while the women finished in fourth.

Freshman Derek LeBlanc claimed two school records personally, and was a member of the record-breaking 4x100-meter relay. LeBlanc turned in a time of 24.36 in the 200-meter dash, and a distance of 6.59m in the long jump. LeBlanc, freshman Eric Questel, sophomore Jeff Hileman, and freshman John Schultz compiled a school-best time of 45.85 in the 4x100-meter relay.

Hileman also turned in a school-best performance in the 110-hurdles with a time of 15.89.

Other standout performances came from sophomore Luke Beuerlein and junior Matthew Weingardt. Beuerlein turned in a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:57.46. Weingardt finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a lifetime-best time of 10:06.90.

On the women's side sophomore Becky Clark set a new school-record in the 5,000-meter run finishing in 17:19.99 also earning her a first-place finish in the event. Xavier had other impressive finishes in the 5,000-meter run, with three other runners in the top eight. Senior Kelly Sraj turned in a time of 18:02.62, junior Amanda Brown finished in 18:23.85, and junior Caitlin Shagena recorded a time of 18:32.76.

The women had noteworthy finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as Dani Meiners and Kelsey Flaherty had breakout performances in the event, turning in times of 11:57.22, and 12:10.86, respectively.

 

 

The Xavier University men's and women's track teams return to action Saturday, March 24 in Tempe, Arizona as they compete in the Arizona State Invitational.
