KINGSTON, R.I. - The Xavier University men's and women's track programs continue to show great improvement in just its second year of existence as the Musketeers set seven school records on Saturday at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track Championships. XU's women's team set four new school records while the men turned in three program-best performances on the day at Mackal Field House on the University of Rhode Island campus. Becky Clark began the record breaking on the women's side in the one-mile run as the freshman broke her own record of 5:07.43 with a time of 5:03.98 en route to a fourth-place finish. Freshman Ashley Stick turned in a time of 1:28.79 in the 500-meter run, which was also a school record. In the 3,000-meter run, junior Kelly Sraj finished seventh with a time of 10:17.22, which breaks her own school-record time of 10:27.24 set at the Husker Invitational earlier this season. The final school record to fall on the women's side was in the 4x800-meter relay where Clark, Natalie Lyzinski, Caitlin Shagena and Sraj turned in a time of 9:29.55. Clark started the relay with a time of 2:17, Lyzinski ran the second leg in 2:20, Shagena finished the third leg in 2:23 and Sraj anchored the relay in 2:28 on short rest following her individual performance in the 3,000-meter run. On the men's side, Luke Beuerlein claimed a sixth-place finish in the one-mile run with a record time of 4:17.84, which breaks Beuerlein's time of 4:19.49 set at the Husker Invitational on Feb. 4. Sophomore Ben Milroy shaved 10 seconds off his school-record time of 8:49.99 in the 3,000-meter run as the second-year runner finished sixth with a time of 8:39.34. Jeff Hileman capped off the evening in the 55-meter hurdles with a program-best time of 8.15. The Xavier men's and women's track teams will take a month off from competition before opening the outdoor season on Saturday, March 18 at the U.C. Early Bird Relays hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Gettler Stadium. -XU-
