Xavier Indoor Track Breaks Two School Records at Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's and women's indoor track teams finished their season with two more broken records today at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Rhode Island. Sophomore Becky Clark and freshman Derek LeBlanc highlight the program-best performances.

The women's side turned in many standout finishes as they placed in the most events at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Xavier history. Among those performance was Clark who shaved six seconds off her last school record, finishing the one-mile run in fourth place at 4:54.50.

Freshmen Bethany Moore and Katie Phillips turned in standout performances in the 1,000-meter run, and 800-meter run, respectively. Moore recorded an eighth place finish, turning in a time of 3:06.62, while Phillips also finished eighth in a time of 2:21.41.

The women's distance medley team consisting of junior Caitlin Shagena, Moore, freshman Danielle Meiners, and senior Kelly Sraj had a top-ten finish in the event recording a time of 12:32.54.

The women's 4x800-meter relay team consisting of Phillips, freshman Kelsey Flaherty, Clark, and sophomore Ashley Stick also turned in a notable performance, finishing fourth in a time of 9:30.16.

The men's squad also saw success in the record books as LeBlanc long-jumped a school-best distance of 21 feet.

Sophomore Luke Beuerlein ran a personal-best 15:04.80 in the 5,000-meter run earning him sixth place in a field of seventeen.

Sophomore Clinton Womack, and junior Ben Milroy recorded note worthy performances in the 800, and 3,000-meter runs, respectively. Womack finished seventh in a time of 1:59.16, as Milroy, despite injury, turned in his fastest time of the year at 8:45.63.

 

 

The men's 4x800-meter relay team of Womack, Beuerlein, junior Matt Weingardt, and freshman Michael Westendorp turned in a sixth place finish in a time of 8:12.31.

The Xavier University track program returns to action when they kickoff their outdoor season, Saturday, March 17 in the Early Bird Relays hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
