Xavier T&F Returns To The Queen City Following the NYC Armory Collegiate Invitational

CINCINNATI- The Xavier track and field teams saw a number personal-bests and near personal-bests at the Armory Collegiate Invitational this past weekend in New York City. There were teams from all over the nation in NYC this past weekend, giving the Musketeers their greatest level of competition thus far this season.
Both captains of the men’s side, senior Hank Geer and junior Tom Ohlman, both ran personal bests in the 5000-meter. Geer ran a time of 14:39.94 while Ohlman ran a time of 14:32.71, the fastest by a Musketeer so far this season. Geer finished fifth out of 20 runners while Ohlman placed eighth in the championship. Senior Evan Betts finished ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 8.55 in the 60-meter hurdles, missing a spot in the finals by just .01 seconds.
Juniors Clare Fischer and Abby Fischer both ran personal bests in the 5000-meter as well. Clare ran a time of 17:04.53 in the championship, finishing ninth, while Abby ran 17:21.47, finishing seventh out of 35 other runners. Senior Rachel Clark who ran a season-best time of 2:16.26 in the 800-meter and was two seconds out of a top-10 finish.
Other finishes for the men include senior David Gibson, who ended with a 6.55-meter distance in the long jump, putting him in 18th out 45 other athletes. Junior Nick Kobunski nearly missed his season best in the 800-meter with a time of 1:58.97. Senior Evan Betts finished ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 8.55 in the 60-meter hurdles, missing a spot in the finals by just .01 seconds.
Other notable times for the women’s side include senior Rachel Clark who ran a season-best time of 2:16.26 in the 800-meter and was two seconds out of a top-10 finish. Junior Madison Riethman missed her season-best time in the 800-meter, finishing with a time of 2:20.07. Senior captain Kaitlin Price finished her first race in the 3000-meter this season in a time of 10:58.65.
The Musketeers return to action this upcoming weekend at the Hoosier Hills on February 8th and 9th before they travel to Kingston, Rhode Island for the A-10 Indoor Championships on the 16th and 17th. Some of the main competitors for both the men and women will sit out the Hoosier Hills and get some well-deserved rest before the conference championships next week.
