FORT WAYNE, IND. - Xavier Track and Field rose up to perform well among a range of elite competition this weekend. On Friday, selected individuals competed at the prestigious Indiana University Relays in Bloomington, Ind.; while Saturday the Musketeers ventured to the IPFW Invitational in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The IU Relays field consisted of strong schools from across the country including Notre Dame, Alabama, Louisville and Indiana. The men had several highlights on the day with one of the strongest performances coming from Craig Krcal, who pole vaulted a height of 4.5m. With this height, Krcal is now the third-ranked BIG EAST pole vaulter on the season.

Others who had strong days include John Kolibab, who in the high jump cleared a height of 1.97m, Corey Zielinski, who set a personal record in the 3000m finishing with a time of 8:42.98, and Tom Ohlman, who finished eighth in the mile with a time of 4:15.96.

On the women's side, Adrija Taraska in the shot put tossed for a distance of 12.62m, which moves her up to the fifth-ranked BIG EAST shot putter this season. Anna Ahlrichs also turned in a strong performance by setting a personal record in the 3000m with a time of 10:15.44. Others who had strong days include Clare Fischer, who finished eighth in the mile against a competitive field, and Onya Edwards, who in the long jump reached a distance of 5.32m.

On Saturday at the IPFW Invitational, several athletes placed high and set personal bests. Connor Buchholz, Matthew Bryant and Ryan Konstanzer all won their events on the day. Buchholz ran the 800m and finished with a time of 1:59, Bryant in the long jump reached a distance of 5.81m and Konstanzer finished the 400m with a time of 51.71.

The women also had a day that saw many high place finishes. Jessica Albers won the 3000m with a time of 10:34.53 and Edwards won the long jump after competing at IU on Friday. Rachel Sollman and Victoria Chiller both placed second in their events with Sollman crossing the finish line in the mile with a time of 5:20.98 and Chiller in the 400m with a time of 1:01.75. Kaitlyn Crean set a personal record in the high jump clearing a height of 1.5m, which earned her a third place finish.

The team will travel back to Indiana again next weekend for another two meets. On Friday, the team will take part in the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., and on Saturday at the UIndy Relays hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
