Xavier Track Sets Three New School Records at Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Freshman Luke Beuerlein set a new school record in the 800-meter run as the Xavier track team competed in the Ohio State Invitational at French Field House on the OSU campus. Beuerlein along with Clinton Womack and Becky Clark turned in top five finishes on the day for the Musketeers. Beuerlein record his record-breaking performance with a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.44. Womack finished two spots behind Beuerlein in fourth place at 1:58.68. Both times were better than the previous top mark of 1:58.27 set by Nate Showman during the 2005 season. Freshman Jeff Hileman also recorded a program-best time of 8.32 in the 55-meter hurdles, which beats his own record establish on Jan. 14 at the Purdue Invitational. Senior Paul Staudigel turned in the second-best time in school history in the 3,000-meter run at 8:52.95 en route to a sixth place finish. On the women's side, Clark led the way with a third-place finish in the 1,000-meter run in a new school-record time of 3:02.51. Clark's time bests the previous top time of 3:15.64 set by Heather Stafford at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Championships. In the one-mile run, junior Kelly Sraj recorded a time of 5:22.00 while finishing seventh in the field of 32. The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Ashley Stick, Danna Deans, Clark and Natalie Lyzinski finished 10th with a season-best time of 4:24.22. Xavier will return to the track Friday, Feb. 3, for day one of the two-day Husker Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska. -XU-
